Wind Mitigation Inspection
in Jacksonville, FL
Florida law requires insurance carriers to offer discounts on homes with features that reduce hurricane wind damage. A wind mitigation inspection documents those features on the official OIR-B1-1802 form so your carrier can apply every credit you qualify for. Jonathon Norman, an InterNACHI Certified Professional Inspector, performs every wind mitigation for Blue Line Inspections himself, across Jacksonville and the surrounding Northeast Florida counties.

What the Form Documents
The OIR-B1-1802 asks about seven features. Each one can earn a credit on the wind portion of your premium.
Building Code
The year of construction and permit history, which show whether the home was built to the current Florida Building Code.
Roof Covering
The type of roof covering and when and how it was installed, from the permit or the product approval where available.
Roof Deck Attachment
How the roof sheathing is fastened to the trusses: nail size and spacing, checked from the attic.
Roof-to-Wall Connection
Whether the trusses are toe-nailed, or held down with clips, single wraps, double wraps or straps.
Roof Geometry
Hip, gable or other roof shape. Hip roofs hold up better in high wind and usually earn a larger credit.
Secondary Water Resistance
Whether a sealed underlayment or taped deck seams would keep water out if the roof covering blew off.
Opening Protection
Impact-rated or code-approved shutters and products on windows, doors, skylights and garage doors.

Coastal Duval, St. Johns and Nassau Homes
Northeast Florida sits in the path of tropical storms and hurricanes, and homes near the beaches in Duval, St. Johns and Nassau counties feel the strongest wind. That is why carriers price the wind portion of a policy carefully, and why documenting what your home has can make a real difference.
What earns credit varies a lot with the age of the house. Older block ranch homes often have gable roofs and trusses that are only toe-nailed to the walls. Many newer homes in growing areas such as St. Johns County were built to the current Florida Building Code, with clips or straps, tighter deck nailing and sometimes impact-rated windows. A home that has had a recent reroof may also have gained secondary water resistance. The only way to get credit for any of it is to have it inspected and written up on the form.
We inspect throughout our service area, from Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Fernandina Beach and Orange Park to Palatka, Lake City and Gainesville.
How It Works
Most carriers want a 4-point inspection as well for older homes. Book them together and there is only one appointment to schedule.
Book the Visit
Call or text 904-576-9338 or schedule online. If your carrier also wants a 4-point, say so and both can be done on the same trip.
Attic and Exterior Check
Jonathon goes into the attic to photograph the deck nailing and roof-to-wall connections, then documents the roof, shape and every opening outside.
Report for Your Agent
You get the completed OIR-B1-1802 form with the supporting photos, ready to send to your insurance agent so the credits can be applied.
